Moving is not easy at any time; but especially during a pandemic. Some people might be able to delay moving plans, but if you can’t, you may be very concerned about how to do it while taking the necessary safety precautions. Moving during the coronavirus can be trickier but below are 6 tips to make your life easier and make your move as easy as possible.
Find and Tour Your New Home with TMG.
Our website is always up-to-date with our full inventory of homes and apartments for rent. Our Relocation Department is available to help you with your home search; just in a different way than we usually are. Physical access is restricted in our offices and apartment communities, so our staff will only be working with you via phone, text, or email. If you are interested in viewing a home or apartment that we are renting, we have established a protocol for performing showings via Facetime, Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, Zoom, and other apps. Call, text, or email to let us know what works for you. In addition, we also utilize a lockbox system so you can view a property privately. Leasing agents will still be working inside apartment offices, and can communicate with you via phone, text, or email. Please visit the individual apartment website for more information.
Be Upfront About Sickness.
If someone in your family has contracted Covid-19, or you’re self-isolating after being exposed, let us know. If you’re working with a moving company, let them know as well.
Avoid Cancellation Fees.
Things are changing quickly these days, so be sure to inquire about refundable deposits, cancelation fees, and rescheduling fees.
Minimize Contact with Your Helpers and/or Moving Company.
You can still move while maintaining social distance. Consider using a moving container (like PODS). Moving companies have implemented new measures to keep you safe and avoid contact. Contact them to find out specifically what they are doing.
Sanitize During Your Move.
Follow the CDC’s guidelines about washing your hands frequently, staying 6’ apart from people, and not touching your face. You could also wear a face mask and gloves for extra protection. Wipe down items as you’re packing them to prevent germs from moving to your new home with you.
Make Sure Your New Home is Clean
When you rent with TMG, you can rest assured that your new home has been sanitized prior to your move-in. Our cleaning teams always sanitize a home, but they are taking even more precautions during this time
The moving industry has implemented policies to maintain health and safety during a move. For more tips and information, visit the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA).
