Cut. Fold. Sparkle. Repeat! TMG Cares Joins CHAP to Spread Healing Through Art

On May 14, eight enthusiastic TMG Cares volunteers traded their office gear for scissors, glue sticks, and glitter as they spent the day volunteering with CHAP (Children’s Healing Art Project)—a Portland nonprofit dedicated to delivering the healing power of art to children and families facing medical challenges.

Since 2006, CHAP has brought more than 95,000 free healing art experiences to young patients in hospitals across the Portland metro area. Their mission is simple yet profound: to make sure every child—regardless of diagnosis, ability, or special need—can experience the joy, creativity, and emotional relief that art can offer. One of the most inspiring ways CHAP fulfills this mission is through CHAP in a Box, a program that delivers thoughtfully curated art kits right to the homes of children who need a little extra color in their lives.

We were proud to lend a hand in assembling the next batch of CHAP in a Box kits, set to brighten the days of more than 60 children. Over the course of the day, our team:

Cut out 45 cardboard mask patterns, ready to be transformed by imagination
Folded 186 origami finger puppets that will soon flutter into vibrant birds
Added sparkle to 45 posters for CHAP’s upcoming Sparkle Party fundraiser

In total, our group contributed 18 hours of joyful service, filled with teamwork, creativity, laughter, and love. It was a powerful reminder that healing can happen in the form of a brushstroke, a splash of glitter, or a shared moment of joy.
