On May 10th, nine TMG and AMS employees joined forces with the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) to help socialize dogs waiting to meet their new families and ease their stress from staying in unfamiliar surroundings. These socialization “play dates” are important for the staff at the OHS, since they provide valuable information about a pet’s personality, likes, and dislikes so that the OHS can help pets find their “perfect fit” family. TMG Cares volunteers helped socialize nine dogs and volunteered 18 hours of their time.
The Oregon Humane Society is the fourth-oldest humane society in the nation. For over 150 years, the OHS has been finding homes for neglected, abused, and abandoned animals. Every year they find forever homes for more than 11,000 pets.
If success is measured in smiles, then the TMG Cares Volunteer Day at the Oregon Humane Society was a home run. As part of TMG Cares’ mission to support our employees and well as our community, this May TMG Cares is actively promoting Mental Health Awareness Month. One of the focuses this month is on the positive benefits that pets can have on our mental wellbeing. Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Partnering with the OHS for a volunteer event was the perfect way to give back to the animals and bring awareness to mental health issues!
