TMG Cares Volunteers Improve the Home of Navy Veteran Justin Allen

June 19, 2024 | At TMG Cares, our mission is to give back to our community, particularly to those who have selflessly served our country. Recently, volunteers from the TMG Family of Companies came together for a remarkable day of service at the home of Navy Veteran Justin Allen.

Transforming the Landscape

The volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work on the front yard, tackling the overgrown weeds and invasive blackberries that had taken over. Planter boxes were cleaned out, and the wisteria clinging to the home's trellis was cut back, allowing the beauty of the garden to shine through once more. In the backyard, ivy had encased several trees, threatening their health. The volunteers partially removed the ivy, preventing further growth and ensuring the trees could thrive. All the yard debris was diligently hauled away, leaving the property looking neat and refreshed.

Addressing Structural and Pest Concerns

In addition to the landscaping efforts, the team assessed damage to the siding caused by a persistent woodpecker. Recognizing the need for professional repair, they referred the issue to a licensed contractor to ensure the job would be handled correctly. To protect the home from pests, the volunteers also covered three crawl space openings, effectively blocking any unwanted intruders.

Interior Improvements

Inside the home, the volunteers made essential repairs, including fixing one of the toilets. These improvements not only enhanced the functionality of the home but also contributed to a more comfortable living environment for Justin.

Community Support

This event would not have been possible without the generous support of our community partners. A huge thanks goes out to Clark County Veterans' Assistance Center, Mr. Plywood, and Whole Home Construction for their invaluable contributions. Additionally, Foode Cafe and Catering provided delicious meals for our hardworking crew and Justin, ensuring everyone stayed energized and well-fed throughout the day.

His service and sacrifice inspire us, and it was an honor to give back in this meaningful way. About Operation Home Rescue

Operation Home Rescue is a nonprofit organization that exists to assist veterans who live in Clark County, Washington who are physically or financially unable to carry out their home maintenance and/or repair needs. Participants in Operation Home Rescue can receive a variety of home maintenance services performed at no cost, such as landscaping, minor repairs, and cleaning. Operation Home Rescue is administered and funded by TMG Cares, the nonprofit division of the TMG Family of Companies, in partnership with the Clark County Veteran’s Assistance Center (CCVAC).
