Meals from The Heart: TMG Cares Volunteers Cook Dinner at the Portland Ronald McDonald East House

TMG Cares Visits the Ronald McDonald House to Prepare a Meal for Its Residents

Since 1997, the Ronald McDonald East House has provided a sanctuary of hope and comfort for families with seriously ill children. For those facing the uncertainties of hospital visits and critical care, this haven provides not just shelter but also a supportive community during their toughest times.

On February 29, a group of volunteers from the TMG Family of Companies extended a helping hand to cook a Meal From the Heart for the residents of the Ronald McDonald East House. This group volunteer event was coordinated through TMG Cares, the 503(c) non-profit division under the TMG Family of Companies umbrella. With hearts full of compassion and sleeves rolled up, volunteers from TMG arrived at the house, eager to make a difference in the lives of those facing adversity.

Before beginning to wash and prep the food, the group took a tour of the house. One particularly touching moment that pulled at the heart strings of all in attendance was a visit to the Wish Tree. This tree, in the hall of East House, is a place where residents can share their wishes for their family members currently going through some of the the darkest days that they will face. It served as a reminder of the true meaning behind the depth of what these families are going through, and why this house and the services they provide are so important.

The mission for the group was simple yet profound: to cook a delicious meal for the families residing at the Ronald McDonald House. Guided by their passion for giving back, the TMG team prepared a comforting feast fit for champions – ham and cheese sliders, accompanied by fresh green salad, creamy potato salad, and sweet cookies to round off the meal.

For TMG volunteers, the experience was not just about cooking a meal; it was about offering a moment of respite, a glimmer of joy amidst the challenges these families face daily. It was about showing solidarity, reminding each family that they are not alone in their journey, and that there are people at organizations like TMG ready to support them every in their tough moments.

Through initiatives like this Ronald McDonald House volunteer event, exmployees from the TMG Family of Companies exemplify the spirit of compassion and community that defines TMG Cares. Their dedication to serving others not only enriches the lives of those they touch but also inspires others to follow suit, creating a ripple effect of kindness and goodwill that resonates far beyond the walls of the Ronald McDonald East House.

About Ronald McDonald House Charities

From RMHCOregon.com:

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon & SW Washington provides access to medical care, a home away from home, and a community of support for seriously ill or injured children and their families.

In 1984, after years of planning, the first Oregon Ronald McDonald House opened its doors to families in need.

Just steps away from OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children, that first House began providing comfort and relief to families needing to be close to their child’s hospital bed. Nearly four decades later, RMHC of Oregon & SW Washington has expanded from that first 17-room House into a statewide network of four Houses with 80 rooms and four in-hospital programs serving thousands of families every year.

At RMHC, we work every day to ensure families traveling for lifesaving or life-changing medical care can count on us, whenever, and wherever they need us.

Our dedicated staff, volunteers, and donors have made it possible for us to provide compassionate hospitality to more than 50,000 families since we first opened our doors in 1984. We are proud to say that we provide this vital resource at no cost to the families we serve, making it possible for them to focus on what matters most – each other.
